House of Creatives is an earth house in Aldona, Goa, designed by Grounded for a couple and their teenage son who wanted to live in a mud house. The family grows much of its own food, lives without air conditioning, and needed room for everything they make, from restoring vintage bikes to modern dance, Indian classical music and art.
The walls are rammed earth, much of it sourced from the site, and the team spent two and a half years building test walls and working out a soil mix for Goa’s monsoon before construction began. The house is arranged around an open-to-sky water court with terracotta screens, lime plaster, stone floors and timber, and it stays cool through thermal mass, cross ventilation and the water evaporating at its centre. And the earth is left exposed, inside and out. Completed in May 2026.
